A MESSAGE FROM KATHEE LAVINE AT HOLY COW
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and interested suppliers:
HOLY COW!
We have been at the UO for over 10 years now, and our first 10 year lease is up in June of this year. The EMU administration at the University of Oregon is choosing not to renew our lease. They are choosing instead to replace us with Laughing Planet, a chain store from Portland. They feel the inclusion of meat by LP gives them a more mainstream appeal. They are not concerned that the Holy Cow Cafe is a stand alone business that will cease to exist.
The process is frozen for now, while we sort through the legal processes, seeing if there even is a protest process in place. They seem to have written up the rules on this one, changing them from the last time we negotiated with them.
This is our only window of opportunity to have the court of public opinion weigh in and maybe tip the scales on the decision. Here?s what you can do if you?d like to help:
Letters (or, of course, emails) and Phone Calls
MOST IMPORTANT this week:
* President of University, Dave Frohnmayer, pres@uoregon.edu
* Robin Holmes, Vice President of Student Affairs, savp@uoregon.edu
* Eugene Weekly, editor@eugeneweekly.com
* The Decider, John Costello, Food Services Director,
jcost@uoregon.edu and 541-346-3719
* ASUO President, Emily McLain, asuopres@uoregon.edu
* Director of EMU, Dusty Miller, dusty@uoregon.edu
* You can let Laughing Planet know how you feel either here in Eugene (541) 868-0668, or in Portland (503) 546 2972.
Thank you.
